It seems like every month I.AM.GIA has a new collection that they’re promoting and and releasing (or maybe i’m getting them confused with Jaded London…. same difference if you ask me). As of now four collections are showcased for sale on the website: Miss Gia Racing (May/June 2024), Gia Glam (which features various dresses from their plentiful, easily forgettable, past collections) , X-Rated, and the latest Gia TV (Aug. 2024). Now you know these Instagram, digital store fronts give the something they always give, just repackaged with a different font. The collection features a set of incohesive looks and includes: co-ord sets, risqué dresses that rides the line between ugly and bootleg, micro shorts, maxi skirts, flare/straight leg jeans and of course denim.
Now honestly I don’t care for I.AM.GIA, and this collection is not enough to get me to start. To be even more honest this collection is really nothing to rate, interpret or discuss, I mean……. no artistic thought was put into this, just some hand picked mass produced stuff. There are a couple of cute pieces, but an item has to be more than just '“cute” and trending for me to buy.
However
there is ONE, (1), /wən/ thing that they made (or should I say replicated) and included in this collection that got me.
Look familiar?
These looks are literally a (pitiful) carbon copy of one of my favorite runway bikini looks to come out of the 2000’s. Some of you fashion girlies may know exactly what collection i’m referring to.
Dolce & Gabbana Resort 2005.
The way these Dolce & Gabbana Resort bikinis from 2005 are engraved in my mind! This show (in its time) was definitely a sight to see. Men and women sharing a runway. The women (thoughtfully slick with a thin layer of perspiration) clad in skimpy, scandalous, stringy, floss like bikinis and ripped, low cut, tied t-shirts hiding absolutely nothing from onlookers. I loved this so much I did my own iteration. Sexy is my middle name and this is what these looks are screaming.
It is so painfully obvious that it’s not the original and it kills me! The problem I have with fast fashion (aside from poor ethics and the killing of Earth as we humans know it all in the name of cheap, poorly made clothes) is that they always miss the mark (which I guess duh, that’s why it’s fast fashion). Attention to the detail is what makes this replica (and most replicas) a waste of money when you’re someone who pays attention to the details. The way a shirt is cut and tailored can take a look from chic to cheap, just like that! The fabric, the stitching, the quality of the color, the INTENTION put into a garment is what makes it worth buying. I can go on and on, but that would be a topic for another post.
